Asian Christianity Institute is a special research arm of Keimyung University. It was established to provide a learning and collaborative environment where church leaders and scholars can articulate their faith positions in the geopolitically and ethnic-religiously plural contexts in the region. The Institute is intended to contribute to the crossing of boundaries between countries, cultures, and theological traditions. It seeks to explore the nature of contemporary Christian theology in a global context and involves a sense of the appropriate balance between the ecumenical and the local. Although there is tremendous diversity and richness within Christian traditions in Asia, Asian Christianity and its theologies have not always been explored sympathetically or introduced to wider scholarship. There is therefore ample scope for research on Christianity in Asia and networking between scholars of Asian and Western countries. Such interaction is vital for the furtherance of the understanding of Asian Christianity as well as highlighting its importance to Christian theology. By being in East Asian culture and traditions, the Institute for Asian Christianity is a catalyst to facilitate this interaction through publications, seminars and consultations, providing courses and research environments.

In recent years, we have witnessed significant challenges emerging to the notion of the “nation-state” due to growing interactions among countries. While the boundaries between countries have become increasingly blurred, the tension and conflicts surrounding borders and border crossings have intensified. They are not only about physical borders but also about psychological and emotional borders, which are embedded in people's minds and can be expressed in quite violent ways such as xenophobia or extreme nationalism.
Many have defined such paradox as the coexistence of bordering and de-bordering. Korean society is not an exception in such a paradoxical process of social change. As a result, it experiences significant changes in political, social, economic and cultural borders.
Since its establishment in 2011, the Institute for Border Studies at Keimyung University aims to explore such paradoxical developments on border issues. As a recipient of Social Science Korea Fund from National Research Foundation of Korea, the institute organizes various academic activities to promote border studies such as international conferences and seminars. Also it supports researchers who studies border issues.
