Major in Composition

1. Introduction
  The Composition Department, Music & Performing Arts School at Keimyung University, started in 1961 as a composition major within the Sacred Music Department. It became an independent department in 1972, making Keimyung the first university to offer the composition major outside of the Seoul metropolitan area. Since 1961, the Composition Department has attracted a great number of students who have studied composition in Korea and also abroad, demonstrating the rapid development of the musical field in Daegu and the Gyeongsang-do region. Many Keimyung students have won important music competitions including the Donga Music Competition, Joonggang Music Competition, the Contemporary Music Society of Seoul, Busan International Contemporary Music Festival and the MBC University Song Competition.
The Composition Department invites many internationally recognized, eminent composers to its faculty, allowing students to work with the best in the field. New areas of Electronic Music and Multimedia Performance have been added recently to the Composition Department expanding the applications of technology within the curriculum. Students have many opportunities to perform at concerts, performances, workshops, competitions and Listening Lab Series.

3. Educational Objectives
  To raise creative artists, composers, and educators who are able to work in various art and music fields.

 

4. Facilities
  A single user studio for computer music and audio works and multi-users studio can be used for computer music class and seminar. Students can also utilize the various practice rooms.
