Greetings from the President
Dear Keimyung family,
I hope this message finds you all healthy and happy. Now that the hectic semester is over, let us enjoy the summer vacation. I hope that the break will provide you with the time to pursue the various activities that you have been planning and ample opportunity to rejuvenate before next fall.
This year marks the 120th anniversary of Keimyung University. I would like to extend my deep appreciation to all the Keimyung family members who planned, implemented, and successfully completed the projects reflecting on the past 120 years at Keimyung University. In pooling our wisdom together, I am sure that our institution will shine for the next 120 years. Our work included the commemoration ceremony, special publications, the unveiling of the water fountain, the opera performance, and the hosting of guests from home and abroad. These efforts helped spread word throughout the region and the world of the spectacular growth and history of Keimyung University.
There are other great achievements that we should all celebrate in this meaningful year: Keimyung won a sponsorship from the Ministry of Education for the 7th consecutive year for its contribution to the normalization of high school education. We were awarded a sponsorship for global talent development by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Regarding the latter, Keimyung is now the leader of the consortium of universities, which includes those from the Seoul metropolitan area. In our role, we are taking the initiative to develop talent for the future of the automobile industry.
Keimyung received high ratings in various government appraisals. For example, we received an “excellent” rating from the Ministry of Education and the National Research Funds’ community-focused, industry-academia cooperation index (LINC+). For the third consecutive year we received a “good” rating from the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employment Information Service for Keimyung’s employment center operation. I can say that your concerted efforts to help students transition into careers, pursue entrepreneurship and cooperation with businesses, and innovate in the classroom are now paying off.
We are of course especially proud of our academic excellence. Keimyung researchers’ papers were published in leading international journals in pharmacy, electrical energy engineering, materials engineering, and other fields. One of the researchers turned out to be an undergraduate student, thus attracting a great deal of attention from industry and academia.
This past April, 50 Keimyung faculty members and students volunteered to provide disaster relief in the area of Gangneung devastated by wild fires. In addition, a Vietnamese student majoring in business administration donated a scholarship. These are clear manifestations of Keimyung’s educational philosophy that emphasizes ethics.
Keimyung is offering student assistance in many ways this semester, including an overseas outreach program, job training, school entrance information sessions, language classes and camps, summer school, on-the-job training, and a student exchange program, only to name a few. I suggest that students take full advantage of these programs so that they can discover the “essence of their existence“ during this summer vacation.
I believe that the portrait that you are drawing of yourselves on the Tabula Rasa, the portrait of Keimyung University, will lay a strong foundation for the next 120 years of Keimyung. I hope you all have a rewarding vacation, and I will see you again on campus next fall.
God bless you.
