BIOMETEOROLOGY

  1. Course Description
환경 대기의 기상상태로 인한 생태계의 다양한 현상 및 특성을 비교 분석하고 기상변동으로 인한 생태계의 영향을 해석하고 생태계 파괴를 사전에 예측는데 목적이 있다.
  2. Course Objectives
You will understand the following items at the end of this course, 1. The causes and problems of HABs observed around the Korean Peninsula and the relationship between the HABs and meteorological factors. 2. How to prepare the presentation about scientific issues. 3. How to treat in situ observation data or satellite remote sensing images to observe HABs.
  3. Teachnig Method
*Flow of lectures* 1. I check students' attendance. 2. At the beginning of a lecture, we will check the new words in the handout together. 3. I will give the review quizzes from the contents of the last lecture. The questions are shown on the screen, and students answer personally. 4. Main talk 5. Summary & announcement *True False quizzes* The True False quizzes are given once after five or six lecture times (10 questions/time, four times in the semester). The time limit is about 20 - 30 minutes. After you submit the answer sheet, we check the answer together in Korean. (I also explain in English, if foreign students are included in the class.) *Class contribution* I give points to the positive actions of students. 1. Telling meanings of new terms on the screen in 5 seconds. 2. Answering reviewing quizzes. 3. Answering the questions in English. 4. Asking something about the lecture. (visit my office / send an email, message, Kakao-talk) 5. Students who enrolled in this course from other colleges 6. No delay, No absence (except allowed absences by the university). *Summary videos* Since this course is given in English, some students may feel great difficulty following the classes. I will provide some summary videos in Korean for such students.

  5. Assessment
*The special feature of this course is to conduct the GROUP REPORT* This part corresponds to the "assignment" occupying 25% of the total score. From the former part of this semester, I will give some lecture times to analyze real HABs observation data. Five or six students form a group and analyze the data about the HABs in the Korean Peninsula. You have to discuss the data and make a group report. If we have enough time, we will try giving a presentation. The team leaders have to inform me of the progress of their team several times.
  6. Requiments
This course will be held in English, and the distributed handouts will be written in English. I will upload the handouts to the ‘교수학습지원시스탬 .’ Please download and print them out before the lecture. The students attending this course must prepare for the next lesson. I prohibit the usage of the electronic dictionary in the examinations since many students pointed out the possibility of cheating. Please prepare the word lists distributed in the class or an English paper dictionary in advance.
  7. Practical application of the course
Students who attend this class will get knowledge about the environmental issues related to the ocean. At the same time, you will learn technical English in the field of the environment through reading handouts or listening to lectures. Furthermore, you will try to analyze actual HAB data and make a presentation PPT in the latter half of this course. Through the processes, you will get some skills for scientific presentation.
