  1. Course Description
    본 교과목은 학생들에게 문학(픽션, 시, 드라마)의 기본적인 개념들을 소개하고 영어작문 시간에 배운 글쓰기 기술을 보다 강화하고 세련화시키는 데 기본 목표를 둔다. 그러나 참고문헌을 사용하는 학술적 글쓰기의 기술에 보다 초점을 둔다. 학생들은 읽기와 쓰기를 통해 단편, 시 그리고 드라마의 다른 요소들을 분석하고, 나아가 비평적 읽기의 기술을 발달시키게 되며, 문학에 대한 개인적인 반응을 할 수 있고 적절한 학술적 글쓰기를 통해 그 반응들을 공유할 수 있게 된다.

    This course helps you to: 1. Understand, discuss, and write about literary works written in English 2. Identify and analyse the key themes and techniques in the texts we study 3. Express your thoughts about literature in clear sentences and focused paragraphs and essays

This isn't a grammar class. Your participation score is based purely on your ability to regularly share your ideas in a clear and reasoned manner during class discussions. Set your smartphone to silent before class starts. Use it only for study purposes. POINTS are deducted from your participation score if you send messages on your phone/tab/laptop, leave class without explanation, refuse to take part in activities, or simply behave in a disrespectful manner.

    To pass this course you must: Complete all major assessments and assignments. ZERO points for any you don't do. Attend at least 2/3 of scheduled classes. If you miss more than 10 classes without providing admin-approved certification, you FAIL the course.
  7. Practical application of the course
    This course introduces students to the conventions of English fiction in a variety of genres and provides them with the skills to continue reading and writing about even more advanced texts in English after the course. Consequently, students should become more discerning readers with the ability to probe texts for sophisticated themes and meanings and to discuss the complex issues that they raise. Ultimately, students will be able to use their literary knowledge as a powerful rhetorical and communicative tool in their future academic endeavors and careers.
