GERMAN IN MEDIA(LECTURE IN ENGLISH)

  1. Course Description
    Changes in culture and language are immediately displayed in media. This course gives a view on crucial developments in Germany's media landscape. Examples from German movies and newspaper articles will be viewed, read and used for exercises in order to offer cultural knowledge as well as language skills. Anderungen in Kultur und Sprache spiegeln sich unmittelbar in den Medien. In diesem Seminar soll anhand von Beispielen aus deutschen Filmen, H?rspielen, Fernsehsendungen und Zeitungs- und Zeitschriftenbeitragen ein Uberblick Uber die mediale Kultur des gegenwartigen Deutschland vermittelt werden. In Ubungen und aktiver Auseinandersetzung mit ausgewahlten Beispielen konnen Studierende daruber hinaus Kenntnisse zu den sprachlichen Besonderheiten dieses Feldes erwerben.
  2. Course Objectives
    Knowledge of German media and and about media in Germany as well as about current German discussions about media issues, e. g. responsible media use, media addiction, forms of social participation through media, history of the media in Germany and German media criticismin mass media, knowledge of an important aspect of German culture.
  3. Teachnig Method
    Regular participation is necessary. Absence or being late has negative influence on grading.Three to four activity sessions will be included in which the participants work independently in groups to solve questions on specific topics. Midterm and Endterm will be about class content.

    There will be 3-4 homework assignments per semester. Homework assignments that need to be sent to me via email, SMS, KakaoTalk, etc. will be reflected in the 'Assignment' grade. 한 학기 동안 3~4개의 숙제가 있을 것입니다. 이메일, SMS, 카톡 등을 통해 나에게 보내야 하는 숙제는 '과제' 성적에 반영됩니다.
  6. Requiments
    Interest in media, good proficiency in English language. I will hand out an English resumee of each lecture - if it is wished, I will also hand it out in a (bad) Korean translation
  7. Practical application of the course
    Knowledge of German media, discussion on media, influence of the internet etc.
