ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIETY

  1. Course Description
    이 과목은 환경사회학의 관점과 이러한 관점의 변화가 어떤 방식으로 이루어졌는지에 대해 이해하는 것을 목표로 한다.
  2. Course Objectives
    This course delivers the basic knowledge of environmental issues and the relation to human society. Social theories are employed in explaining the causes and consequences. The students do not just understand the cost of human activities with environmental ends, but also be able to adjust personal, political and societal behaviors contributing to these issues. Their job in the future may, or may not be in the environmental protection field. However, no matter the government, business sector and social organizations are all part of the entire world. The action of every individual will contribute to environmentally friendly and sustainable development.
  3. Teachnig Method
    ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PLAGIARISM Students should acquaint with the University’s policy on academic integrity and plagiarism. Cheating and examination impersonation will be disqualified. Penalties will be applied for late submission of assignments and papers. Please refer to the rule and regulations of the Department and College for details. Class rules: Sick leave needs a doctor’s prescription afterwards. Causal leave needs preapproval supporting documents that can be submitted afterwards. Deadlines of assignments and presentations are not extendable. Late submission of assignments is generally not acceptable. In an exceptional case, a penalty may be applied. No re-sit for the quiz and exam for any reason. For sick leave and a family member’s funeral coincident with the quiz or exam date, a compensation test will be given afterwards without penalty.

  5. Assessment
    The Google Form Project (20%) requires every student to walk around a neighborhood nearby the Seongseo Campus of Keimyung University to identify ONE environmental problem. Then the student needs to fill out a checklist on a Google Form. The assignment (10%) is a written report of ONE class discussion session. Each student needs to submit one report (about 300 words or an A4 paper) via My Classroom- Assignment.

  7. Practical application of the course
    Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be equipped to: 1. Understand the perspective of environmental sociology. 2. Discuss fundamental issues affecting the environment and the relationship between humanity and the environment. 3. Analyze and explain the interconnections between the environment with human activities, economic practices, societal relationships and public policy from a sociological perspective. 4. Appraise the concept of environmental citizenship, and sustainable development and its contribution to local and global environmental challenges.
