이 강의의 목적은 인간 미생물 상호 작용, 환경 변화, 생물학적 치료, 미생물 위험 평가 및 미생물 집단, 그리고 인간의 삶과 자질에 관한 미생물 병원체의 전염 및 감염에 영향을 미치는 환경 및 인적 요소를 포함한 다양한 생명과학, 생태 및 환경 주제를 심층적으로 이해하는 것이다.

- Gain an appreciation for and understanding of the ecology of microorganisms.
- Understand the role of microbes in the environment.
- Explain the ways microorganisms interact with biotic environments such as other microorganisms, plants, and animals.
- Explain the ways microorganisms interact with abiotic environments.
- Recognize and provide detailed examples of the complexity of microbial life that is common to all life.
- Understand the major techniques that are used to study microorganisms.
