ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEM

  1. Course Description
    In the business realm relevant information is important to stakeholders in order to formulate sound decisions. The accounting information system is a mechanism to attain the goal of providing relevant information. And in this regard, students must understand the importance of accounting information system in preparation for their future position in business. This course focuses on the use of information system in the accounting process. It will provide the students analytical tools to evaluate accounting information needed by the users, to evaluate and design information system to support business cycle.

    The primary learning outcomes of this course are:  Applying knowledge of main business cycles and accounting systems to comprehend the flow of information.  Identify necessary data for managers to plan, assess, and regulate an organization's business operations.  Understand the system development process.  Apply flowcharts as documentation tools for identified processes.  Understand the risk of fraud, the foundations of information security, and databases.  Understand the need for ethical standards and the models for governance, internal control, and risk management.

    Computer-based individual assignments (project work) will be provided. Detailed instructions will be provided in the classroom.
