INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

  1. Course Description
    This course will proceed sequentially through three levels of analysis The first level is an introduction to strategic management through two prevailing models; the industrial organization model (I/O) and the resource based model. The second part of the course focuses on strategy formulation. The final part addresses strategy implementation. The goal of this course is to explain the strategic management process through a practical analysis of strategic management cases. Prerequisite: Prinicples of Management
  2. Course Objectives
    By the end of the course, students should be able to: ‒ Explain and critically evaluate the core concepts and theories of international business and strategic management ‒ Define strategic problems faced by MNEs and select appropriate analytical frameworks ‒ Analyze global business environments and firm-level strategies using structured reasoning ‒ Formulate coherent and context-appropriate international business strategies and defend their recommendations with logically grounded arguments ‒ Assess the strategic role of non-market strategies such as standards and ESG in global competition

    No formal prerequisites are required. However, prior completion of Principles of Management is strongly recommended. Students who have taken (or are currently taking) Cross-Cultural Management may also find it beneficial for class discussions and case analyses.
