  1. Course Description
    이 강좌는 나사렛 예수와 싯다르타 고타마, 즉 부처의 생애와 가르침을 객관적으로 비교합니다. 두 인물 사이의 공통점과 차이점을 탐구할 것입니다. 복음서와 불교 경전의 기초 텍스트를 읽으면서 그들의 가르침이 형성된 역사적·문화적 맥락에 주목할 것입니다. 또한 이 위대한 종교적 스승들과 그들로부터 파생된 세계 종교들 사이의 연관성을 탐구합니다.
  2. Course Objectives
    By the end of the course, students will be able to: Describe the historical-religious contexts of Jesus and the Buddha. Critically compare the similarities and differences in the life and teachings of Jesus and the Buddha. Distinguish the origins of Christianity and Buddhism from their developments over the centuries. 본 강좌를 수료한 학생들은 다음을 할 수 있게 됩니다: 예수와 부처의 역사적·종교적 배경을 설명할 수 있다. 예수와 부처의 생애와 가르침의 유사점과 차이점을 비판적으로 비교할 수 있다. 기독교와 불교의 기원을 수세기에 걸친 발전 과정과 구분할 수 있다.

    Exams (English/Korean): based on the PPTs only ; 25 questions (20 multiple-choice; identification; max of 5 short answer) Assignment(s): a short reading and/or video with questions (in-class) Attendance: 1 point deduction for every class missed, without an acceptable excuse (3 lates is equal to 1 absence);students who miss more than 10 classes will receive an F grade automatically

    * No prerequisites, but a course on Christianity or world religions would be helpful
  7. Practical application of the course
    * Should improve English reading and listening skills, as well as critical thinking skills.
