COMMUNICATION ENGLISH Ⅲ

  1. Course Description
This program is designed to give students the confidence and ability to communicate in everyday English conversations. This program focuses on practical daily conversation. In this class we will approach language learning through presentation, reinforcement, and expansion of communication forms and structures that promote the gradual but secure development of the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills gained in previous classes.
  2. Course Objectives
This course is designed to challenge students and their ideas of communication, successful communication strategies, their own skills, and more. Course tasks are designed to encourage and cultivate new strategies, skills, and insights into how messages, ideas, and emotions are shared and received. Ultimately, students will emerge with a new outlook on sharing ideas & emotions with others, in a variety of communication modes. Additional objectives include: 1 - increase our awareness of how we express ourselves through body language, speech content, speech outlines, etc. 2 - become more aware of & adept at how we use time in our presentations 3 - cultivate our visual design skills to communicate effectively through slideshows 4 - become proficient at targeting a message to a particular audience 5 - learn how to design engaging activities for an audience, & lead others ...and so on
  3. Teachnig Method
Class rules will be elaborated in a separate syllabus to be distributed in class (via CTL) because this format is too limited to express them clearly and fully. These rules include the following general principles: 1 - Use English for class communications, inside and outside class (such as when writing emails and doing work) 2 - Submit all assignments in a timely manner & in the required formats. Typically, this means uploading one’s slideshow file(s) and portfolio of progress _before_ a presentation due date. Any change of presentation schedule needs appropriate prior approval, which must be requested by email within a specific time frame. 3 - Use the class website effectively & frequently. 4 - Be aware, informed, & responsible. You are the manager of yourself, your work, & your actions, so monitor your progress & keep records of feedback, grades, etc. 5 - Save all work to cloud storage, always! 6 - Show academic honesty, along with integrity and originality. Plagiarism will be strongly punished, including “AI plagiarism” (the use of large language models to write your work) 7 - Participate positively in class 8 - Support one another during class, by sharing ideas, offering suggestions + feedback during in-class discussion activities, and so on 9 - Reflect on your work to guide your growth 10 - Stay focused during class time; resist the temptation to use Kakaotalk, to surf the web, or to do work for another class during our class time!
