- Course Description
이 교과목은 유럽 주요 도시의 발전 형태와 그 구조, 그리고 문화유산에 대한 기본 개념을 수강생들에게 학습하고, 그 도시가 보유하고 있는 유럽문화유산의 다양성을 검토하는 것을 주된 목표로 삼고 있다.
(참고: 2014년 1학기에 개설된 유럽도시와 문화유산의 이해(1)에서는 주로 유럽의 서부에 위치한 프랑스, 영국, 스페인 등을 다루고, 2014년 2학기에 신규 신청하게 된 유럽도시와 문화유산의 이해(2)에서는 유럽의 중부와 동부에 위치한 독일, 오스트리아, 이탈리아, 그리스 등을 다루고자 함)
- Course Objectives
The objective of this course is for students to discover, engage with, and experience the rich cultural heritage of 4 cities in Central and Southern Europe. Europe in this course refers to the political and/or geographical Europe. Students can pick the 4 cities at the beginning of the course.
Each city and its cultural heritage will be looked at from 4 themes, 2 sets of comprehension and discussion questions, and a review.
The 4 themes are:
History (social and political progress)
Culture (arts, architecture, cuisine, language, customs, traditions, festivals)
Reasons to Go (eating, drinking, entertainment, sights)
Need to Know before you Go (survival guide - the dos and don'ts)

Attendance:
Attendance will be called at the beginning of every class and logged into the KMU attendance app.
If you are absent for more than 9 classes, you will receive an F grade.
Any materials supporting your excused absences should be uploaded to the Edward system in line with university policy.
If you are late by 5 minutes you will be marked late. If you are repeatedly late by less than 5 minutes, you will be marked late.
If you are 30 minutes or more late, or leave 30 minutes early, you will be marked absent.
If you are late 3 times, this will be marked as an absence.

- Practical application of the course
This course is a content course delivered in English. One practical use of the course is communication in a second language. Students will be expected to listen, take notes, ask questions, discuss and sit exams relevant to the content. A second practical use of the course is broadening an understanding of Europe, its cities, peoples and its cultural heritage, an understanding which my help students who are interested in Europe and/or would like to travel there in the future.
