- Course Description
이 교과목은 고전문학 작가의 인생, 사상과 의식, 문학 세계를 탐구하는 교과목이다. 학생들은 삼국시대부터 시작하여 조선후기에 이르기까지 문학사에 큰 영향을 끼친 작가들을 살펴볼 것이다. 작가가 살던 시대의 특징, 작가의 인생, 대표적 작품의 문학사적 의의를 배울 것이다. 또한 학생들은 문학사 여러 시대의 특징과 작가들이 기여한 여러 장르에 대해 알게 될 것이다.
- Course Objectives
After completion of this course students will be able to understand major literary works in premodern Korea. Students are encouraged to read the given readings and understand the historical contexts and literary traditions that shapes the literary texts. Students will read primary texts and critical articles both in Korean and English, so the bilingual ability is required in prior to taking this course. The class aims to enhance not only student's familiarity with premodern literature but also improve their proficiency in speaking, writing, and discussing in English.

Students will be expected to use English in discussions, and do writing assignments and presentations in English.

- Assessment
Attendance 10%: Students will be expected to participate fully in class discussions. Those whose absences add up to one third of the 15-week period will automatically fail the course.
Exams 50%: There will be two exams that evaluate student learning.
Presentation 40%: The course is designed by TBL (Team Based Learning) method. Students must collaborate with other students for team presentation project, at least two times. The presentation topic and specific tasks will be provided in the first week's session.

- Practical application of the course
Knowledge of premodern authors and literary works will be useful for taking other related courses. Ability to analyze literary texts, to compose essays in Korean and English might be used in further study and work.
