ADVANCED ENGLISH CONVERSATION(2)

  1. Course Description
    This course will focus on helping students further develop their skills and confidence in conversational English. It will continue to focus on providing students with opportunities to communicate in a variety of situations, e.g., pair and group activities. Students will enhance their ability to discuss a broad range of topics; present information in a variety of contexts, e.g., informal communication, public presentation; and communicate in a manner that is both culturally appropriate and idiomatic. They will also have opportunities to increase their competence in listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, oral grammar, and conversational strategy use.
  2. Course Objectives
    • Improve both written and spoken English in a meaningful context • Use writing tasks (summaries, opinions, and questions) as preparation for class discussions • Build fluency, vocabulary, and communication strategies in English • Develop confidence in expressing personal views and engaging with others • Complete 2 individual and 2 team-based writing tasks • Participate actively in discussions and class activities • Take a final (group) exam

    Respect your classmates and instructor during discussions. Participate actively and stay engaged throughout the session. Complete all assignments on time. When doing teamwork, please take responsibility for your workload. Ask questions if you need help or clarification. Use English in class. Academic honesty is expected at all times - no AI use for assignment writing.

    Mixed ability class. There is no set textbook for this class. All materials will be uploaded to Google Classroom. Students will need writing materials for class activities. We will go over how to use Google Classroom in Week 1.
