  6. Requiments
In this course we will compare Korean and English translations of selected source texts of Korean history from the late Chosŏn period in order to think about the choices translators make and how best to talk about Korean history both in Korean and in English. The course will be a mixture of lecture format with frequent discussions of reading materials. It is critical that you complete the reading materials to the best of your ability. I will not expect everyone to able to read the Classical Chinese texts but I will expect everyone to have read the Korean texts, even those in mixed-script (國漢文). Students must complete the assigned readings, attend lectures, take four quizzes, a midterm exam, and a non-cumulative final exam. Final grades will be determined as follows: Midterm Exam: 30% Final Exam: 30% Quizzes (6@5%): 30% Attendance: 10%
