  1. Course Description
    의약품 합성의 기초 개념이 되는 관능기별로 분류되어 있는 amines, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids 등의 탄화수소들을 관능기의 정의를 바탕으로 각각의 물리적 성질, 화학적 반응성, 제법, 유도체 등을 포괄적으로 이해, 활용할 수 있도록 한다. 이러한 관능기의 여러 가지 유기화학 반응-치환, 제거반응을 공부하여 약품제조에 활용할 수 있도록 한다.
  2. Course Objectives
    During this course, students are expected to 1) predict the major products for a given reaction and 2) propose a mechanism to explain the organic transformation. By the end of this course, students will be able to learn to: 1. Use the vocabulary of organic chemistry. (nomenclature) 2. Draw correct structural representations of organic molecules. (structure) 3. Write reasonable mechanisms and predict products with correct stereochemistry. (reactions)
  3. Teachnig Method
    Throughout the course, we will engage in one hour and 50 minutes of scheduled classroom meetings per week. Lecture slides will be utilized in class. Students are expected to read chapters of the textbook prior to class. We will have quizzes in class. Students are expected to complete homework assignments for a better understanding of the materials throughout the course.

  7. Practical application of the course
    Successful students will be introduced to the three-dimensional structures of organic molecules and learn a wide variety of reactions associated with a defined set of organic functional groups. Students will be able to predict reaction outcomes based on underlying chemical mechanisms and elucidate how these reactions occur based on known principles. The learning outcomes will be useful for understanding the structures of diverse organic compounds and drugs and will provide the basic and essential knowledge required to develop new compounds and drugs.
