ENGLISH IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

  1. Course Description
    An undergraduate course titled "English in International Relations" should aim to develop students’ proficiency in English while focusing on the language, concepts, and communication strategies commonly used in International Relations. This course is designed to enhance students’ English language skills within the context of International Relations. It will focus on developing proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while introducing students to the key vocabulary, themes, and concepts relevant to IR. The course will incorporate a variety of activities, including analysis of real-world texts, case studies, debates, and simulations to build both language skills and IR knowledge.
  2. Course Objectives
    By the end of the course, students will be able to: • Comprehend and analyze texts related to international relations • Use specialized vocabulary and terminology of IR effectively • Develop and present arguments on international topics both orally and in writing • Engage in debates, discussions, and simulations using English in a diplomatic context • Understand the nuances of intercultural communication in international settings

    Students in the course should: - participate with a positive and open mind - use English during class - set personal goals for improving communication skills (apply class principles to their own work) - participate actively by asking questions, sharing feedback, and so on - avoid plagiarism, including AI plagiarism (not creating scripts or other work using AI and then presenting this work as their own) - show personal responsibility, and check the CTL website regularly to be aware of assignments and so on - manage time well to meet deadlines (etc)
