  1. Course Description
    생체를 구성하는 물질과 이들의 생합성에 관련된 대사와 조절 메카니즘을 이해시킨다. 약물이 생체에 미치는 영향을 분자 수준에서 이해시키고 생체물질의 작용기전 및 독성 현상을 이해할 수 있도록 한다. 신약 개발에 필요한 생체 현상, 생화학 전반의 지식을 화학적, 분자 생물학적 관점에서 이해시킨다. 또한 생화학에서 강의되는 지식들이 어떻게 얻어지는지 그 연구 방법에 대해서 설명한다.
  2. Course Objectives
    After completing the course, students will have a good foundation in biochemistry and metabolism by understanding several major metabolic pathways. Students will gain not only familiarity with the names and structures of relevant molecules in the pathways but will also understand the general efficiency and necessity of the major steps in the pathways. Specific learning outcomes include: 1) Students will be able to explain the strategies used by the body to regulate carbohydrates 2) Students will describe the pathways and reactions that connect carbohydrate, lipid, and amino acid metabolism
  3. Teachnig Method
    Throughout the course, we will engage in one hour and 50 minutes of scheduled classroom meetings per week. Lecture slides will be utilized in class. Students are expected to read chapters of the textbook prior to class. We will have quizzes in class. Students are expected to complete homework assignments for a better understanding of the materials throughout the course.

  7. Practical application of the course
    This course will provide the essential knowledge to understand biochemical reactions and major metabolic pathways in cells, which will be utilized to apply the concepts learned in class to developing proteins and drugs in the biomedicine and pharmaceutical fields. Students will also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills required for biochemical and pharmaceutical research.
