PHILOSOPHY AND HISTORY OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

철학적, 역사적 맥락 속에서 유아교육에 대한 다양한 사상을 검토함으로써, 유아교육의 중요성과 현재 유아교육의 현상을 바로 이해하며 미래 방향에 대한 시사점을 발견하도록 한다.

1. Review and analyze the work of philosophers of Early Childhood Education.
2. Understand the educational philosophy that is based on current development of Early Childhood Education.
3. Explore historical ideas that became the foundation of current educational programs and teaching methods.
4. Explore various teaching methods.
5. Examine ones point of view on early childhood education through historical review of education.

Students are required to: 1. Attend all classes and be on time. 2. Complete class readings, homework, and projects by said due date. 3. Participate during large and small group activities. (This includes acquisition, enhanced group collaboration and communication through both individual and (small group, large group) teamwork activities. Students will reflect and learn material through the experience of solving open-ended problems and situations that occur within early childhood education.) 4. Initiate meetings with Professor outside of classroom meeting times (when help is needed). 5. Respect and encourage classmates. 6. Have fun and be an active participant in class discussions.

Students are expected to: Review and follow the course calendar. Course schedule may change and will be announced on the Website in advance so please be sure to log on to the web system periodically for course updates.Submit assignments by the corresponding deadline.

- Understand, analyze and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to the nature and role of the influences of the development of contemporary early childhood education. - Demonstrate understanding of how cultural groups and individual cultural identities affect language learning and school achievement, and the role that culture and subcultures play in the teaching and learning processes of culturally, linguistically and ability diverse students. Student Learning Outcomes: 1. The student will examine the historical and philosophical origins of early childhood education and its relevance to current practices. 2. The student will compare/contrast different theoretical approaches in ECE programs that promote learning in early childhood education. 3. The student will evaluate theories of childhood education in light of child development programs and current research. 4. The student will develop and refine a personal philosophy of educating young children that reflects current research and educational practice.
