이 강좌는 교환학생으로 오는 프랑스 학생들을 대상으로 하는 과목으로 한국 문화를 이해하도록 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 5000년 역사를 가진 한국의 문화유산을 소개하고 삼국 시대부터 고려 시대, 조선 시대를 거쳐 현대에 이르기까지 건축, 음악, 미술 분야 등에서 어떻게 발전되어 왔는지를 알아볼 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 한글 창제의 원리를 비롯하여 한국인의 의식주 문화, 현대 한국인들의 다양한 삶의 모습을 알아볼 것이다. 이를 통해 수강생들은 과거와 현재의 한국 문화를 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
- Course Objectives
1. Class Outline: Introduction to Korean Culture(IKC) is a class that introduces Korean culture to foreigners, including 1) modern Korean popular art and lifestyle centered on the Korean Wave, 2) Korean traditional culture, and 3) Korea's UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. It consists of the sessions that introduces general information about Korean culture.
2. Class Contents
1) Korean Wave(Hanryu) and Korean Culture: The Korean Wave, which began to spread mainly in Asia in the mid-1990s, has spread throughout the world around in 2010. It has expanded its scope to all areas of Korean culture such as popular culture and lifestyle culture. The causes and processes of the Korean Wave will be introduced.
2) Korean traditional culture: Korean traditional culture introduces various traditional forms such as traditional music, folk dance, painting, calligraphy, and porcelain which have recently become the origins of the Korean Wave.
3) Korea's UNESCO World Cultural Heritage: The major parts of culture, such as art, music, dance, literature, architecture, clothing, and food, have always coexisted in the past and present. Through UNESCO world cultural heritage in Korea, we will learn together how Korean tradition and modernity coexist and continue.

1. Midterm: Submission of Cultural Visit Report
1) Place : Any place that symbolically represents Korean culture can be used.
2) Content : Any field that represents Korean culture, i.e. music, art, architecture, religion, food, clothing, craft, etc.
3) Deadline : By the end of April
4) Length : Free Length
5) Method : Visit a cultural place individually or in a group, check the cultural characteristics, history, and the potential for development of the culture through research, interviews, photos, videos, etc., and submit the result in PPT or video.
6) Submission : Submit by email to the professor in charge (yhlee2018@gmail.com). Even when conducting a cultural field trip in a group, each report must be submitted individually.
2. Final Exam : Submission of Cultural Research Essay
1) Content : Compare the Korean culture corresponding to the topic of the cultural visit report submitted in the midterm exam with a similar culture of your country, describe the differences and similarities, and suggest the ways of mutual exchange.
2) Deadline: By May 31st
3) Length : 10 to 20 pages
4) Method : Essay composition
