SAFETY MANAGEMENT FOR CHILDREN

  1. Course Description
    아동 안전교육의 필요성과 개념을 이해하고 특히 아동 발달상의 특성에 따른 안전관리에 대해 살펴본다. 아동을 둘러싼 여러 물리적·인적 환경 측면에서 안전관리에 대해 살펴보고, 유아교육기관에서 할 수 있는 안전교육 지도능력을 배양한다.
  2. Course Objectives
    1. Demonstrate proficiency in planning positive health and safety routines for children within the framework of an EC program. 2. Demonstrate proficiency in planning child centered activities to promote conceptual understanding in children of self care in the areas of health, safety, and nutrition. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of how basic physical, mental health, nutritional, and safety needs that influence the growth and development of each young child are met through environmental and curricular policies and procedures. 4. Demonstrate skills for consistently implementing and evaluating research-based basic health, safety, and nutritional practices and articulate strategies for helping children practice safe behaviors through daily routines and activities. 5. Explain and identify ways to maintain a safe environment including: identifying hazards and risks; conducting regular health and safety assessments consistent with regulations and quality standards; and taking corrective action when necessary. 6. Identify signs and symptoms and emergency treatment options of childhood diseases and those which might indicate physical, sexual and psychological abuse or neglect.
  3. Teachnig Method
    Students are required to: 1. Attend all classes and be on time. 2. Complete class readings, homework, and projects by said due date. 3. Participate during large and small group activities. (This includes acquisition, enhanced group collaboration and communication through both individual and (small group, large group) teamwork activities. Students will reflect and learn material through the experience of solving open-ended problems and situations that occur within early childhood education.) 4. Initiate meetings with Professor outside of classroom meeting times (when help is needed). 5. Respect and encourage classmates. 6. Have fun and be an active participant in class discussions.

  6. Requiments
    Students are expected to attend and actively participate in all class meetings, and complete all readings and assignments carefully and thoughtfully. If students attend all classes and faithfully complete all assignments. The professor will introduce the expected assigments and due dates for the course the first week. In consultation with students, the final assessment procedure may change. This will be decided as necessary.
  7. Practical application of the course
    -Students will understand and demonstrate the importance of safety, health, and nutrition in Early Childhood Education. -As future educators, these concepts will help prepare the EC educator to meet the needs of young children through the preparing a safe and healthy environment. At the completion of this course, students will be able to understand and apply principles and practices in the following areas: • Safe and healthy environments for young children • Prevention of disease transmission and injuries • Identification of and appropriate care and intervention for the sick or injuredchild • Emergency preparedness • Child abuse and neglect • Emotional health; • Preventive health practices; and • How to provide a quick daily health check of all children
