모든 학생들은 서구 문화와 사회에 관하여 정보를 얻기 위해 그들의 삶에서 영어 독해를 하거나 작문을 한다. 본 강좌에서 학생들은 담당교수에 의해 주어진 학습과제나 다양한 활동을 통하여 언어의 인지적 능력(독해)과 생산적 능력(작문)을 학습하고 향상시킬 수 있는 기회를 갖는다.
본 강좌의 목표는 독해 능력과 작문 능력을 종합적으로 향상시키는 것이다. 이러한 목표를 달성하기 위하여 여러 토픽을 통해 학생들의 어휘와 문법을 강화시키고 더 나아가서 학생들의 흥미와 적극적 참여를 유도할 수 있도록 한다. 교수자는 또한 본 강좌가 언어능력과 문화적 양상을 통합하는 활발한 학습의 장이 되도록 한다.
- Course Objectives
This course is intended to extend and refine the writing skills students (would) have learned in their Fundamentals of Writing course (and/or other preparatory courses), with emphasis on research and informed, insightful, and critical thinking. To the point, the course aims to further students' ability to write in a professional and academic manner, with emphasis on logical ideas, structure, reliable and thorough research, and proper style. Writing tasks comprise a variety of styles and purposes, and focus on integrity (of ideas and authorship), word choice, and grammar. Writing while using research, citation, and multiple drafts will be required and encouraged. Students will have occasion to work alone and with a partner(s).

• Submit assignments in a timely manner, and following proper guidelines.
• Avail themselves of the class website.
• Show and accept responsibility for themselves, their work, and their actions.
• Exhibit academic honesty, integrity, and originality. Plagiarism will be strongly punished.
• Monitor their progress in the course, maintaining records of their assignment scores, attendance, and so on.
• Participate positively in class, with an open mind and a receptive attitude.
• Reflect on their work and use the insight gained to guide themselves in their progress.
• Bring all required materials (and, drafts) to class. Feedback sessions and/or in-class writing time may be given in addition to scheduled feedback dates.

This course is a practical tool for creating a solid foundation as a scholar, analyst, and critical thinker. Any university student needs these skills, and the power to express oneself. in your continued career at KAC, you will have further occasions to write essays, reports, and to employ your analytical skills for presentations and other assignments. Moreover, your thesis document (written for graduation) will require you o have the foundational skills that are cultivated in this course.
