- Course Description
This course is designed to enable students to develop and improve their ability to understand basic conversational English, and to hold simple discussions upon a range of everyday subjects. The content and format of the course, together with the topic areas, are based on the teaching units of the course textbook, Breakthrough1. However, there is a very strong emphasis on speaking and listening skills, and there will purposely be very little reading or teaching of grammar.
This course aims to provide a teacher-led but student-centred learning and practice environment in which students can develop their speaking skills. The course will equip students with a broad range of both language structures and vocabulary, so that they may converse at a basic level in a variety of routine social contexts. Students will be strongly encouraged to engage actively inclass discussions, thus allowing them to develop their confidence, fluency and accuracy.
