COMMUNICATION ENGLISH Ⅰ

This course is designed to enable students to develop and improve their ability to understand basic conversational English, and to hold simple discussions upon a range of everyday subjects. The content and format of the course, together with the topic areas, are based on the teaching units of the course textbook, Breakthrough1. However, there is a very strong emphasis on speaking and listening skills, and there will purposely be very little reading or teaching of grammar. This course aims to provide a teacher-led but student-centred learning and practice environment in which students can develop their speaking skills. The course will equip students with a broad range of both language structures and vocabulary, so that they may converse at a basic level in a variety of routine social contexts. Students will be strongly encouraged to engage actively inclass discussions, thus allowing them to develop their confidence, fluency and accuracy.

This is an English conversation course with the express aim of developing the student's spoken English skills. Starting from the first lesson, students will be encouraged to actively participate in class, following structures provided by the instructor, in order to develop their existing knowledge of English. By the end of the semester, students should feel more comfortable and at ease communicating in English.

1. Show manners you would use with your Korean Professors and Grandparents! 2. Ask questions and ask for help! Help others! Be respectful of others, your professor and even yourself! 3. Students lose grade points for being late or absent, phone calls/text messaging, having no textbook or sleeping. 4. Please use the restroom before or after class. Online class rules: 1. 카메라와 마이크를 준비하시고, 실내라면 마스크는 벗어서 얼굴을 볼 수 있게 해주세요. 2. 수업 시간 동안에는 다른 활동을 잠시 멈추시고 집중해주세요. 3. 수업 시작 5분 전에 컴퓨터를 켜고 노트와 모든 준비물을 챙겨주세요. 4. 카메라와 마이크를 껐다 켰다 하지마시고 수업시간 중에는 실시간 커뮤니케이션이 잘 이루어 질 수 있도록 협조해주세요. 5. 수업 중에는 주변이 조용하고, 집중할 수 있는 곳을 찾아서 참석해주세요.

Obtaining a new copy of Communication English 1 is mandatory. Having writing materials and a folder is necessary. Having a dictionary is recommended. 실시간 "회화수업"이므로 카메라, 마이크, 스피커 또는 해드폰은 필수이고, 주변 소음에 방해받지 않고 수업에 참가할 수 있도록 환경을 조성하기 바랍니다. 도서관, 카페, 버스안에서의 수업 참여학생은 퇴장당할 수 있습니다.

As English is now the de facto common language used around the world in business, engineering, or other communication situations between different groups of nationalities, this course should prove beneficial in both professional and leisure activities, whether the student needs to communicate with a foreign business partner or just order a meal in a restaurant. The student should also feel more comfortable using English or dealing with foreigners after completing this course.
