- Course Description
This course covers selected topics of current interest in the areas of accounting and finance, such as changes in accounting rules and regulation and the evolution of international financial markets in response to changes in global economic conditions.
- Course Objectives
The course is designed to develop the students’ understanding of microfinance. The students will be exposed to the microfinance principles and practices by studying the experiences, challenges and prospects of the different implementers in Southeast Asia. Furthermore. They will be able to acquire some techniques in evaluating performance of microfinance in the aspects of financial and social. The course will consist of three parts:
Part I-Theories and Concepts and Practices
Part II-Microfinance in Southeast Asia
Part III-Financial and social impact

Attendance will be checked in compliance with the KMU policy. It is the responsibility of the students to come on time.
The students will be grouped as a team depending on the number of enrollees. The team will conduct a country analysis of microfinance
Only one formal examination will be conducted
The students will be formed into teams. Each team will research MFIs implementers from different countries

- Practical application of the course
Microfinance has become a financial model that would address society's social and economic problems. Much has evolved since it was introduced in the early 70’s. Today, the microfinance industry offers diverse products and services to growing numbers of clientele. It is considered as a global industry involving millions of people and a large number of institutions including governments, cooperatives, non-governments and other financial intermediaries. Many tools were likewise introduced to analyze the performance of the program and its sustainability. Learning microfinance is an opportunity to prepare them for the real financing arena.
