  2. Course Objectives
This course is designed to introduce key concepts in teaching second language reading and writing and to improve teaching techniques. Based on the 2015 revised educational curriculum, this course grounds practical teaching experience in current second language theory. Not only are students expected to understand the theoretical principles underlying modern teaching of reading and writing, but they must also apply them to actual classroom teaching. Course Goals: After completing this class, students will be able to • identify general approaches to teaching reading and writing • collaborate with peers to analyze and modify activities found in middle and high school textbooks • create balanced reading and writing lessons from existing middle and high school textbooks • make connections between teaching practices and language teaching theory
  3. Teachnig Method
Assignments: During this class, students will complete two lesson plans, two micro-teaching, activity analyses in class, and a final exam. o Lesson Plans: Students will design two lesson plans using a framework for lesson planning that the instructor will distribute. The lesson plans will be developed based on ideas in the textbook. o Teaching Demonstration: Students will perform micro-teaching two times. Detailed information will provide in class. o Participation: Students will be graded for their participation in class and out-of-class activities. o Exam: Students will take an in-class exam on the course material. Assignments must be handed in on time. If they are not handed in on the assigned date and time, a grade penalty will be given (to be determined based on the assignment). Attendance Policy. You must attend at least 1/3rd of class meetings to receive credit for this course. Your attendance grade is handled separately. You may miss two classes without losing any attendance points, but each class you miss after the second will lower your attendance grade by 2%. Each day you are late lowers your score by 1%. Cheating/Plagiarism/Copying: Any student who plagiarized (copies) part or all of an assignment without giving credit to the original author will automatically fail the assignment. Any student who plagiarizes more than once will automatically fail the class. Copying work from other students is also enough reason for both students to fail the class. Any student who plagiarizes, cheats, or copies once will not be able to get an A in the class.
