EUROPEAN POPULAR CULTURE(LECTURE IN ENGLISH)

  1. Course Description
    The objectives of this European Popular Culture course are to introduce students to European lifestyles, to improve students understanding of European Society and Culture and to help students understand how European citizens think. Students will explore and analyse different aspects of European Popular Culture including TV and radio programs, graffiti, cuisine, fashion, consumerism, and the many facets of entertainment such as sports, music, film, dance and literature.
  2. Course Objectives
    This Spring 2024 European Popular Culture course looks at Pop Music, Cinema, Literature, TV and Radio of major European cultural powerhouses, such as France, Britain, Spain, Italy, and Germany among others. The course strives to provide students with an overview of the major trends in the ever-evolving pop culture of Europe. In this semester, we will cover 4 themes. 1. Popular Music 2. Books and Contemporary Literature 3. Film 4. Television and Radio Each theme = 6 classes (Introduction + 4 Sub-Themes + 1 Review) For example: Theme: Popular Music Class 1: Introduction Class 2: Sub-theme 1 (ABBA) Class 3: Sub-theme 2 (Britpop) Class 4: Sub-theme 3 (French Chanson and Edith Piaf) Class 5: Sub-theme 4 (Amy Winehouse) Class 6: Review Students will be required to: Listen to Lectures. Engage in Discussions (Q&A) about Lecture contents. Take a Mid Term & Final Exam. There are no homework assignments for this course.

  7. Practical application of the course
    The course strives to provide students with an overview of the major trends in the ever-evolving pop culture of Europe. In addition, as the course is delivered through English, the course will help student comprehension and communication skills.
