- Course Description
This course will focus on helping students develop their skills and confidence in conversational English. As such, the main focus of the course will be on providing students with opportunities to communicate in a variety of situations, e.g., pair and group activities. Students will have the opportunity to discuss a broad range of topics, give a variety of different presentations, and enhance their cultural competence in terms of appropriateness of language and idiomatic speech.
They will also have opportunities to increase their competence in listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, oral grammar, and conversational strategy use.

This class helps you to
1. Speak English clearly and express your ideas coherently.
2. Improve your vocabulary, pronunciation, and spoken grammar.
3. Interact with others "naturally" by using everyday language and idioms.

English
English is the language of instruction/interaction. Minus points for use of other languages.
Participation is essential and graded. Get involved and ask / answer questions.
Class rules
Set your smartphone to silent before class starts. Only use it for studying.
POINTS are deducted from your final score if you send messages on your phone, leave class without explanation, fail to take part in tasks, refuse to speak, put on makeup, or generally behave in a rude or antisocial manner during class.

Have the course textbook, a notebook, and something to write with every class.
Keep class handouts in a file for future reference
Assignments and Assessments
If you fail to do your midterm presentation / final interview on the assigned day, you will lose 5 POINTS. You get a ZERO score for any uncompleted assignment (including online practice tasks).
If you have a good reason for being unable to complete an assignment or assessment on time, you must contact me BEFORE the deadline or assessment day.
Cheating
If you copy sentences without any reference or use AI to generate a script for your midterm presentation, you will get a ZERO score.

To pass this course you must
Complete all class work and assignments on time. Penalties apply to assessments completed late.
Attend a minimum of 2/3 of scheduled classes. If you miss more than 10 classes without providing official certification from the college admin team, you will get an F grade.
Being absent results in a 1 POINT deduction from your attendance score. Arriving to class 20 minutes late or more is an absence.
Each late arrival counts as 1/3 of an absence. A student is late if he / she arrives after roll-call. 3 lates = 1 absence.
- Practical application of the course
This course prepares you for the spoken components of the TOEIC, TOEFL, and IELTS tests. In addition, you can utilise the conversation skills learned in this class in many real-life situations. These include having informal conversations with native speakers, doing interviews in English, and using functional English when working, studying, or travelling abroad.
