INTERNATIONAL TOURISM AND CULTURE

  1. Course Description
    세계경제와 국제관계에 있어 관광 및 문화에 대한 이해는 필수적 요소로서 세계 주요국가의 관광과 문화의 특징에 대한 이론과 실무에 대해 학습한다. 이를 통해 국제감각을 넓히고 국제 관광인으로서의 자세를 확립하는데 목표가 있다.
  2. Course Objectives
    At the end of the semester, students are expected to: Understand what tourism is and its many definitions. Define, understand and explore a variety of tourism terminology and concepts. Learn about the evolution of travel and tourism and its impact on the world. Discuss the components of the tourism industry. Identify travel motivators and tourism generators. Assess and appreciate tourism’s impact as a global, economic, environmental, cultural, political, and social force. Describe industry and government organizations’ roles and functions that support tourism at the regional, national, and international levels. Identify and differentiate tourism-related products and describe their role in supporting tourism. Demonstrate the ability of the nature and value of tourism.
  3. Teachnig Method
    Smartphones for personal calls, messaging, or playing games are highly discouraged—smartphones used as a dictionary or for classroom activities are allowed. Do not leave the class without your professor's permission unless it is an emergency or suddenly you are very sick. If you are late, you will be marked late (3 times late is equal to 1 unexcused absence). Cheating in any form is highly discouraged. Enjoy the class!

    It is preferred for students who wish to enroll in this class to have basic English communication skills as well as digital literacy skills. Since the class is student-centered, students are encouraged to participate in class activities and discussions.
  7. Practical application of the course
    The students can learn what's happening within the tourism industry, how it has changed, and how the business environment has affected tourism-related businesses. Moreover, students will be able to observe how these changes affect them as tourists or as members of the host community. The multicultural classroom setup offers a rich opportunity to listen to students' presentations to gain insight into the culture, activities, and status of tourism in other countries. Therefore, they can generate insights and contribute to the development of tourism in their area.
