21ST CENTURY SKILLS

  1. Course Description
    Acquiring a broad set of skills during senior schooling is critical to students’ success in further education and life. Skills identified as 21st century skills are those needed to succeed in a complex, competitive, knowledge-based, information-age, technologically driven economy and society. This course is designed to explore the essential elements needed for the acquisition of knowledge and competencies to cope with the demands of the 21st century. This course prepares university students by engaging them in a thoughtful dialogue and activities.
  2. Course Objectives
    By the end of the semester, students should be able to: - Identify lifelong skills that will help them succeed in the 21st-century workplace. - Exemplify how to become a lifelong learner who can be a knowledge creator, technology savvy, problem solver, innovator, and effective communicator who shares ideas with others and responds positively to change. - Apply knowledge to be a responsible global citizen with a relationship based on fairness and tolerance, culturally competent, and can connect locally and globally. - Plan how to become successful by setting goals, being resilient, creating opportunities, and being confident in pursuing a passion.
  3. Teachnig Method
    1. Using smartphones for personal calls, messaging, or playing games is highly discouraged; smartphones used as a dictionary or classroom activities that require the use are permissible. 2. It is not advisable to leave class without permission from your professor unless you are in an emergency or suddenly ill. 3. If you are late, you will be marked late (3 times late is equal to 1 unexcused absence). 4. Hangul should not be spoken loudly during instructional time. It is understood that there are times when Korean translation is necessary to comprehend an unfamiliar situation. However, please ask your instructor if it’s “ok” to translate. 5. Cheating in any form is highly discouraged.

    Basic English communication skills and how to use technology during presentations and activities.
  7. Practical application of the course
    This course will prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate effectively in the community. By learning how to cooperate and collaborate, students can take an active part in building the community, the nation, and the world.
