HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

  1. Course Description
    The subject aims to familiarize students with the theory and practice of entrepreneurship within the hospitality management in Southeast Asia. This subject intends to help students to identify the basic concepts and understands different perspectives on innovations and entrepreneurship and is able to relate the concepts into today’s hospitality management in Southeast Asia.
  2. Course Objectives
    On completing this course, students should be able to appreciate the fundamentals of the hospitality industry. In particular: 1. Understand a basic knowledge of the hospitality industry. 2. Identify segments of the hospitality industry and their similarities and differences. 3. Understand management's role within the hospitality industry. 4. Learn entrepreneurial opportunities in the hospitality industry. 5. Create a strong interest in the field of hospitality.
  3. Teachnig Method
    1. Mobile phones must be turned off or silenced during class. Using communication and entertainment devices such as iPads, iPods, and similar devices is prohibited. 2. An attendance check will be done at the beginning of class. 3. Students must contact the instructor as soon as possible if they anticipate missing multiple classes due to chronic ailments or co-curricular or other university activities. 4. Behaviors that disrupt other students’ learning are unacceptable (e.g., arriving consistently late for class, excessive mobile phone use, reading non-course related materials, or eating during class). 5. Students are responsible for keeping track of changes in the course syllabus made by the instructor throughout the semester. 6. Students are expected to attend all class sections, actively participate in class discussions, complete in-class exercises, and fulfill all requirements as scheduled. 7. Major examinations in class will include a midterm and final and will be conducted on the scheduled date only.

    Enhance students' understanding of the industry's interdependency, interrelatedness, and interconnections. Understand the latest trends, needs, and demands of the industry and become aware of the employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the Southeast Asian hospitality industry.
