CLIMATE CHANGE IN URBAN DESIGN

  1. Course Description
    The purpose of this 3rd year course is to introduce students to the realities and impacts of climate change and global warming on cities. Subsequently, different tools and design strategies will be explained to show them possibles design solutions for more sustainable urban environments.
  2. Course Objectives
    - Understand the global environmental situation we are living in. - Learn and understand the sustainable & environmental approach to urban design - Be able to adapt design solutions seen in class to future design projects
  3. Teachnig Method
    - 16 weeks of classes - Lectures, class discussions and video presentations are part of the teaching process - Discussions, Q&A & open-book quizzes are used to solidify the understanding of the lecture content

    1)Attendance and participation in class: 10% 2)Mid-term review assignment: 30% 3)Final review assignment : 40% 4)Open-book quizzes: 20%
  6. Requiments
    - Actively participate during class time - Prior knowledge of basic urban design is not required, but helpful.
  7. Practical application of the course
    - Understand the Earth's environmental situation - Understand climate and its effect on our built environment - Be able to analyze projects and understand their environmental value. - Use design solutions seen in class for future design projects in professional offices. - Built creativity in finding urban design solutions to the reality of our environmental conditions
