GEOPOLITICS

  1. Course Description
    이 과목은 학생들에게 지정학적 위치에 기반한 국제관계에 대한 이해도를 증진시키는 것을 목적으로 하며, 이 목표 달성을 위해 고전 지정학의 근원에서 시작하여 전 지구적인 현상으로의 현대의 지정학으로의 발전과정을 논하며, 중요한 개념과 동학을 다룰 것입니다. 각국의 외교를 넘어선 세계 각국의 정치 지형을 파악하고, 천연자원, 인적자원, 정치 체제, 경제현실, 종교, 기후 등 지정학에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 모든 요소를 다룰 것입니다.
  2. Course Objectives
    By the end of this course, students are expected to: • Develop an in-depth understanding of the linkages among International Relations, Political Science, National Security policies, History, Political and Economic Geography, Geopolitics and Geostrategy and challenges in a geopolitical world • Have a conceptual as well as empirical understanding of geopolitics and familiarity with theories of the state as a geographical and political unit • Establish a firm understanding of Geostrategic/Geopolitical theories of land (Mackinder), sea (Mahan), air (deSeversky), etc. and their contemporary applications • Shed light to the emerging Geostrategic theories vis-à-vis the contemporary globalization in issue areas such as democratization, the environment, and the international political economy • Relate the material covered in the course to how geostrategic relations has evolved in human history • Develop the skills necessary to enter a career in the civil service or journalism, or to undertake postgraduate study • Be in a position to undertake further specialized study in global security related affairs.
  3. Teachnig Method
    A more detailed, updated, and colorful version of the syllabus will be available on CTL in the first week of the semester. Tentatively speaking, all lectures/presentations will take place in class/face-to-face. The class will follow the University's Covid-19 rules depending on the situation in late August/early September. * All tentative and subject to change.
