  1. Course Description
    이 과정은 학생들의 비판적 사고 능력을 개발하고, 대학 수준 이상에서 영어를 효과적으로 사용하는 데 필요한 기술을 제공하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이에 따라, 다양한 현대적 주제에 대한 의미있는 토론을 진행할 수 있는 능력을 향상시키려고 한다. 또한, 학생들의 어휘와 언어 자원을 개발하여 자신의 관점을 더 효과적으로 표현하고 의미 있는 발표를 할 수 있도록 하려고 한다. 이 과정의 또 다른 목표는 다양한 대화 전략의 개발을 통해 학생들이 대화 상호작용을 더 능숙하게 관리할 수 있도록 돕는 것이다.
  2. Course Objectives
    This class helps you to 1. Speak English clearly and talk about many different topics 2. Improve your English vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar 3. Communicate with others naturally by using common conversation strategies and idioms
  3. Teachnig Method
    English I teach classes in English and you must talk to me and each other in English. You lose points if you use Korean. Participating in class discussions and activities is graded. Be active in class and ask / answer questions. Smartphones & Class Etiquette Set your phone to silent mode during class. You can use it ONLY for study studying. POINTS are deducted from your final score if you talk or send messages on your phone, leave class without explanation, fail to take part in tasks, don't speak, or behave rudely. Texts Bring the course textbook, a notebook, and something to write with to every class. Keep class handouts in a file for future reference. Assignments and Assessments Failure to complete a recorded monologues by the deadline will result in a score of ZERO and a 5 POINT deduction from your assignment score. There are 2 monologue assignments, worth 5 POINTS each. Post your audio on the CTL well in advance of the deadline to avoid any problems. Failure to deliver the midterm presentation or do the final interview on the designated day will lead to an instant 5 POINT deduction. You receive a ZERO score for any uncompleted assessment and will likely fail the course completely. If you have a valid reason for being unable to complete an assignment or assessment on time, you must contact me BEFORE the due date. Cheating Cheating, or plagiarism, is presenting the ideas or words of another person as your own. This class has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on cheating. Students who copy sentences without any citation for use in their presentations will receive a score of ZERO.

    To pass this course you must Actively participate in lessons. Complete all class work and assignments (monologues, presentation, tests, and interview) on time. Penalties apply to assignments and assessments completed late. Attend a minimum of 2/3 of scheduled classes. If you miss 10 classes or more without providing official certification from the college admin team, you will get an F grade. Each absence results in a 1 POINT deduction from your attendance score. Arriving to class 20 minutes late or more is an absence. Each late arrival counts as 1/3 of an absence. A student is late if he / she arrives after roll-call or leaves class early without explanation.
  7. Practical application of the course
    This course prepares you for the spoken components of the TOEIC, TOEFL, and IELTS tests. In addition, you will be able to utilise the conversation skills learned in this class in a variety of real-life situations. These include having informal conversations with native speakers, taking interviews in English, and using functional English when working, studying, or travelling in an English-speaking country.
