LIBERAL ARTS SEMINAR AND DISCUSSION

공통교양 교과인 <교양세미나와토론>은 지식 습득 능력과 비판적, 창의적 사고 능력, 합리적 의사소통 능력의 함양을 지향한다. 이를 위해 본 교과에서는 첫째, 인류의 보편적 지혜가 담긴 동서양의 고전과 명저를 읽고 문해력과 분석력을 향상시킨다. 둘째, 독서 후 글쓰기를 통해 비판적 사고력과 창의성을 기른다. 셋째, 발표 및 토론 활동으로 합리적 의사소통 능력을 키운다. 특히 토론은 스피치 실력의 향상과 종합적 사고 능력의 배양에 유용하다. 학생들은 독서, 글쓰기, 발표와 토론을 통해 교양인으로서 갖추어야 할 지적 소양과 도덕적 인성을 함양할 수 있다. 학생들은 이 수업에서 습득한 학습 능력을 다른 교과목 수업과 대학 생활 전반에 다양하게 활용할 수 있다. 또한 이 능력은 졸업 후 사회생활을 하는 데에도 큰 도움이 될 것이다.

This seminar should broaden your knowledge of the liberal arts field and deepen your understanding of literature, philosophy, history, and religion. It should also improve your ability to think, read, write, speak, and discuss topics in English.

*No sleeping in class *No smartphone use (except for dictionary use) *No doing of homework from other courses

* 1 point deduction for every class missed (without a university-approved excuse) * Exams will be a mixture of 20 multiple-choice and short -answer questions (based on the the class readings) * The assignments will include one small presentation in addition to three reading comprehension questions.

* No requirements except an high-intermediate level of English

* Should improve communication and thinking skills in English
